DEPARTMENT: Athletics

WAGE: $20.00/hour

REPORTS TO: Adriaan Ferris, AVP / Athletics Director

HOURS: Up to 10+ hours/week

 

JOB OUTLINE:

o Check and monitor all equipment while on shift:
o Note any malfunctions or machines that need attention
o Follow up by sending a “trouble ticket” email to the Student Life Administrative Assistant (ensure Athletics Director is copied on all emails)
o Create an action “checklist” of what jobs need to be undertaken and provide a timeline for completion
o Ensure signs displayed on broken equipment when needed – until repairs are complete
o Work with the Student Life Administrative Assistant to advertise & promote the benefits of the Fitness Center by:
o Ensure all users are informed the correct use of equipment and proper exercise technique while exercising in the Fitness Center
o Schedule and promote training classes for students & staff on proper technique
o Create and promote quarterly lunchtime event inviting Life West community to the Fitness Center to increase participation and usage
o Fitness Center Staff will function as a liaison between users and the Athletics Department regarding needs, requests and/or concerns. These should be submitted in writing to the Athletics Director.
o Provide quality service to all individuals including students, employees and guests
o Positively represent Life West and ensure you are welcoming and approachable
o Ensure you are respected by all users and you act as an appointed staff member
o Uphold facility rules and regulations and apply safe practices always
o Organize and clean equipment during your shift. This includes:
o Using disinfectant spray on all items and wiping them down with cloths provided
o If equipment is in use, ensure users know and understand proper gym hygiene etiquette
o Perform minor equipment maintenance and log activity
o Assist facility users and respond to requests in a timely manner
o Ensure any laundry requirements are taken care of i.e. gym towels
o Perform opening/closing duties of Fitness Center (lock/unlock doors, log on & log off system)
o Ensure only staff members use the Fitness Center sound system
o Attend staff meetings and trainings when required
o Follow directions and complete assignments
o Other duties as assigned
o Ensures rubber flooring is cleaned on a daily basis

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
 Experienced Fitness Professional
 In good standing with the College, maintaining a minimum 2.5 GPA at the time of hire and throughout employment
 Ability to complete both clerical and technical aspects of the job with minimal supervision.
 Reliability and good communication skills with students, staff, faculty, and administrators
 Reliable and trustworthy
 Ability to communicate rules and regulations, and hold users accountable
 Experience working with others, preferably in customer service
 Ability to maintain regular attendance and punctual
 Gives attention to detail; establishes routine
